A recent study investigated the potential of GreenDroitin^® for supporting joint health and preventing osteoarthritis damage.

Scientists compared it to other chondroitin sulphates on the market, normally found in joint benefit products. The study design utilized the combination of two key elements:

• Osteoarthritic model, that mimics the conditions of osteoarthritis in joints.
• 3D intestinal organoid system, a miniaturized model of the human intestine that has been validated by EFSA, allowing them to assess how well GreenDroitin^® was absorbed by the body

Chondrocytes were exposed to an osteoarthritic inducer, resulting in a significant decrease in cell viability and a marked increase in inflammation levels compared to controls, mimicking the conditions of osteoarthritis.

Results showed that GreenDroitin^®, compared to other chondroitin tested, provided:

• Higher absorption: GreenDroitin^® was better absorbed by both intestinal epithelium and chondrocytes
• Increased cell viability: GreenDroitin^® was able to exert the main effect compared to all other chondroitin forms, increasing cell viability and proliferation
• Suppression of inflammatory process: While other tested chondroitin forms were effective in reducing inflammation, they failed to reverse the underlying mechanism. This suggests that they could mitigate adverse effects but not restore damaged tissue. In contrast, GreenDroitin^® demonstrated the ability to improve the recovery process by returning ROS production and inflammation levels to baseline, thus restoring damaged tissue
